COVID Unveils New Charter Niche in Russia

The analytical department of Emperor Marketing Support closely monitors changes in the business aviation market during the COVID limits period

The latest developments in the world related to the frantic spread of COVID 19 have disastrous consequences for the aviation industry. And, unfortunately, in the near future we will witness global bankruptcies of the largest carriers. At a time when the airspace was massive closed, business aviation has become, in fact, the only segment that has made it possible not to stop business contacts. But, as practice shows, business aviation saved not only business relationships, but also the idea of freedom to move around.

The analytical department of Emperor Marketing Support closely monitors changes in the business aviation market during the COVID limits period. According to our assessment, since the end of March 2020, when the Russian borders became closed, there has been a real boom in charter flights from Russian passengers. And a significant part of the passengers are not regular, common passengers of business jets.

A whole layer of people who only once had heard about this type of transport opened up. In the current situation, they did not want to take a regular flight, trying to minimize contacts with other people. At the end of March 2020, there was a real jump in demand from passengers flying a business jet for the first time. These customers were asking for light business jets, a “cost-effective” choice in business aviation. Large business jets are not affordable for everyone, while Very Light Jet are the opposite. This was confirmed by the fact that the HondaJet (operated by Emperor Aviation) flew non-stop during this period. Globe Air, a major European light aircraft operator, Citation Mustang, also reported a spike in activity in March.

Business aviation is addictive. Once having flown, the passenger will want to return back to business jets. At least once a year on vacation with their family. I am confident that when the COVID situation stabilizes, the new “COVID” passengers will return to business aviation again.
